"Jesus Christ Still 100% Saviour"
Located at Ayigya/Tech Junction, opposite Odotobri Rural Bank in Kumasi, Ghana, Victory Baptist Church of the Ghana Baptist Convention is a vibrant church dedicated to spreading the gospel and fostering spiritual growth.
Our mission is to draw souls closer to God and disciple them for His Kingdom through the Word of God.
To proclaim the message of Hope and Life to the lost.
Victory Baptist Church, like most Baptist Churches, began as an area fellowship of Grace Baptist Church, Amakom, in early 1980.
During this period, members of Grace Baptist who were living in and around Ayigya, Bomso, and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) grew enough in number to form an area fellowship. The fellowship got started in the Adusei family's house, later moved to the Ghana National Academy, and finally to the "Sudan Interior Mission" house. The group's main aim was to come together for fellowship, prayer, and Bible study — and with time, friends and visitors joined the meetings.
By 1983, the fellowship's numbers had increased considerably, and the need was felt to begin a church. At this time, Grace Baptist — then under the leadership of Rev. Dr. J.A. Boadi and Rev. Dr. Adams — decided to turn the fellowship into a preaching station.
Around the same time, Rev. Dr. James Barron, then a lecturer at the Ghana Baptist Theological Seminary, Abuakwa (now the School of Theology and Ministry of the Ghana Baptist University College), rented a building at Bomso and offered his large hall for worship services. The fellowship moved from the "Sudan Interior Mission" house to Rev. Barron's premises.
On the 1st of April, 1983, the first worship service was held. Rev. Dr. Barron accepted the call to be the pastor of the church. Before long, Baptist students from KNUST joined the worship services, and as membership continued to grow, the need arose to find land for a church building. Rev. Barron and the church leadership located a plot at Ayigya, opposite KNUST, and with the help of the Ghana Baptist Convention and Ghana Baptist Mission, the land was purchased.
With the Convention–Mission split, Rev. Barron resigned as pastor, and the church had to find another place of worship — leading to the use of two classrooms at Technology Secondary School (TSS), KNUST. It was at TSS that the name changed from Bomso Baptist to Victory Baptist Church.
The church, in conjunction with Grace Baptist, then engaged the services of Rev. G.S. Mallet, who was a part-time lecturer at the Ghana Baptist Seminary at the time. He later resigned his lectureship to become the church's full-time pastor.
